Yesterday I moved out of my seasonal Ocean City apartment and relocated back to Annapolis, and en route was able to do a little birding. Highlights were: West Ocean City Pond: 1 adult YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 27 Black-crowned Night-Herons, 3 Am. Coots, 2 P.B. Grebes, various ducks including Am. Wigeon, N. Shoveler, N. Pintail (1 fem), L. Scaup (65), Canvasback (65), I did more birding in Worcester County last yearthan ever before, and failed to see Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, which is a relatively unusual bird for Worcester County (I had seen only one previously). Perhaps that bird will stick around - it was roosting in the willows at the south end of the pond. Ocean City Inlet has been quiet, with loons and some decent gull groups, but nothing unusual. I have not seen Harlequins or eiders on my two recent visits. Assateague: 1 BROWN PELICAN (my first of the year) Tarbutton Mill Rd.: 1 WILD TURKEY (Talbot county bird!) Tanyard: 140 Green-winged Teal, 1 BARN SWALLOW (my first of the year), 97 Greater and 31 Lesser Yellowlegs, 40 Common Snipe, 1 Virginia Rail (calling), 4 Common Mergansers, 6 Wood Ducks. Good birding, Marshall Iliff miliff@aol.com Annapolis, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
