At the DC Veteran's Memorial: several Pine Warblers chasing each other from tree to tree, a Yellow-rumped Warbler, Juncos and Song Sparrows, all very active until an American Kestrel flashed through and scared everyone into silence. At the Tidal Basin: Ring-billed, Herring and Greater Black-backed gulls, and a single Bonaparte's Gull, all swimming and feeding among the paddle boats, and a Caspian Tern. The cherry blossoms are astonishing! At the SI Castle, I have been keeping my eye on a pair of Fish Crows that have been carrying nesting material about. While I am usually quite wary about naming crows to species in Spring and Summer, I haven't heard these two speak anything but 'Fish' yet. When one of the local 'American' speaking individuals comes near, these two (and relatives?) escort it away. I'm guessing the Castle will be host to some baby Fish Crows soon.
