Work started about a month ago on the ponds to the east of the cross-dike, and is expected to continue until November this year when the west pond will be finished. At the moment the east ponds are almost completely drained with much heavy equipment moving about in them. There were no birds on the west pond, probably because of the noise and disturbance. The foreman supervising the work was friendly and allowed us to walk up the west side of the west pond, but there was nothing to see except a mixed flock of Ring-billed and Laughing Gulls in the flooded field to the west of the plant (also two Kildeer). Bad news for Caroline County waterfowl and waders for this year. Harvey Mudd ____________________________________ S.
