In-Reply-To: <85.974a82d.2803bf4e@aol.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hi folks, I need some help with the distinction between the Gray-cheeked and the Bicknell=92s Thrushes. Between 6:30 and 7 this morning I observed a thrush in my yard. It was overcast and I live in the woods, so the light wasn=92t great. The bird was working the margin of what little lawn we have. It had a distinctly reddish tail, which at first glance lead me to think it was a Hermit Thrush, but it did no tail flicks. The eye ring was incomplete and indistinct. The back was a warm brown gray. The flanks were a paler shade of the back color. The heavily spotted white breast was almost streaked. Face & neck were uniformly brown gray. The light wasn=92t good enough to get a color on the bill. It was foraging like a Robin. It would hop along, stop, look & listen, move some leaf litter and grab a bug, then hop along to another location. Unfortunately, it never made a noise. I live in Harwood, just north of Jug Bay in Anne Arundel County. Our 2 acres is mostly wooded with most of the neighbors the same way. Ovenbirds are summer residents. 1 neighbor has a huge lawn and Bluebirds nest where our woods meets the neighbor=92s lawn.
