He has a new found interest in birds and I was pointing out some Red-winged Blackbirds for him, trying to catch one singing so he could learn the song. We had stopped the car and were listening, when he commented that he saw one in the grass pulling up a worm. This was in a wet cow pasture with many tussocks of wheat-colored grass. As I looked thru the bins in the direction he was pointing, I was thrilled to see a Snipe! I congratulated him on such a great find and then realized there were many more in the field. There were at least 15 of them, some flew a short distance and then I saw more heads popping up from the grass, so I'm not sure of the count. It was great to hear him exclaim what a long bill the birds had, and that's what he mistook for a worm being pulled from the ground! We also saw 3 Phoebes on the same road. When I got home, I spotted a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, a Phoebe, and a Hermit Thrush. I also had a Hermit Thrush today and Barn Swallows. Good Birding!
