The morning was plagued with persistent light rain which limited some of the songbirds (no Pine warbler?), but the afternoon was beautiful. Hyrnko(?) Rd (off of Houston Branch Rd) - Ovenbird and Gnatcatcher Smithville Lake - Pied-Billed Grebe and Rough-Winged Swallow Garland Rd - 57 Greater and 5 Lesser Yellows, 2 Wood Duck in some nice puddles. Kibler Rd - lots of puddles but only 10 Gr Yellows Sparks Rd - No longspurs or buntings, only Horned larks Stevenson Rd - puddle w/ 5 Gr and 1 Lesser Yellow, 2 Blue-Wing teal Tuckahoe Lake - Green Heron, 1 Coot, 1 Yellow-Throated Warbler Adkins Arboreteum - 1 male Orchard Oriole (first of year?). We did not walk the trails b/c of the rain. Gilpin Point Rd - 4 Forster's Terns, 1 DC Cormorant on talbot side Gainey's Wharf Rd - 2 flyby female Common Mergs on Caroline side Newton Rd - flyover Pileated Woodpecker Tanyard marsh - Green Wing and one pair of Blue Wing Teal, 5 Caspian Terns. We tried looking from Dover Bridge and then stopped briefly on the shoulder about halfway across the marsh. Where do the rest you stop to see this area well? Choptank - numerous Cormorants and Bonaparte's Gulls (Caroline and Talbot) Oak Grove on my grandfather's farm - 6 Greater Yellow and 1 Solitary Sandpiper (first of year?). Also flock of 25 or 30 pipits which has been there for the last 5 or 6 weeks. And finally a Junco remains in my yard, but that's DE so we won't mention it. A late note about Oak Grove Rd from 4/11. There was a huge flock of Laughers along the east end of the road. It also included 5 Bonaparte's Gulls. It was my first sighting of Bonaparte's inland on a farm field puddle and a new bird for my home list. Also 3 Snipe on Kinder Rd.
