The lesser yellowlegs that Bonnie posted about was still in the Wildlife Management Area early this afternoon, along with a common snipe, a green heron, 3 coots and a pied-billed grebe. Three purple martins swooped and soared over the WMA, then landed in a tree at the west end. At the boat rental dock there were 2 barn swallows and 3 tree swallows flying busily about. One ring-billed gull -- the only gull left as far as we could see -- intermittently joined the 3 Caspian terns flying above the lake, first at the west (WMA) end and later at the east (dam) end. Three black vultures and several turkey vultures were flyovers. In the woods we enjoyed watching a field sparrow sing, its whole body vibrating with each trill. Goldfinches and song sparrows were singing everywhere. Eastern phoebes and ruby-crowned kinglets were also present, as well as all the usual suspects.
