The PARULAS have settled in for the season (as have the BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS) as individuals were calling regularly as I walked up the Canal. Three RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were soaring together just above the trees and one BROAD-WINGED HAWK flew over later. PURPLE MARTINS were flying over the river. The beautiful spring afternoon drew me to Meadowside Park and 2 SWAMP SPARROWS -- RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were calling in the woods on one side of the stream and a BARRED OWL was calling from the woods on the other side of the stream as I sunned myself on a rock in the middle of the stream with my feet enjoying the feel of the cool rushing stream (The wildflowers were an added attraction). Saturday I joined a group at Jug Bay on the PG County side. The leader, David Cohen, helped us find PINE, YELLOW PALM, PROTHONOTARY, MYRTLE YELLOW-THROATED and PARULA WARBLERS, WHITE-EYED VIREO, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, OSPREY, BALD EAGLE, RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, LAUGHING GULL, CASPIAN & FOSTER'S TERNS and HERMIT THRUSH. Back to Seneca on Sunday and another walk upstream, I observed PARULA,, YELLOW (thanks, Lydia Schindler), hoards of MYRTLES, 5-10 YELLOW PALM, 2 PROTHONOTARY & LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH. The PROTHONOTARY warblers seemed very attacked to the nest boxes along side the Towpath in the pond just after crossing Seneca Creek. Happy Birding, Dan Eberly Bethesda ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
