Lookout State Park in the late morning (4-17-01). It was just starting to get active as the sun was coming out from the clouds. Only a few warbler species were seen. A waterthrush chased a Common Yellowthroat (4 seen) and disappeared before I could identify it, but just before I left a Northern Waterthrush sang. Yellow-rumped Warblers were abundant as were Ruby-crowned Kinglets. A Worm-eating Warbler foraged near 10+ Hermit Thrushes. I thought I heard a Worm-eating sing at my house several days ago, it stopped before I could locate it and it is too early in the season for me to be confident. This one I saw. Ovenbird and Pine Warblers were also present. Other species of note were Rusty Blackbird (1), White-eyed (6) and Blue-headed Vireo (1, but I saw 2 before leaving home), Brown Thrasher (7) and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (12). I drove past the pond before going home and ran into Marty Cribb shooting his TV spot. As we talked he saw an Eastern Kingbird fly by (my first for season). Good Birding!
