Seeing no other notes from anyone from the Baltimore Bird Club's Robert E. Lee Park walk Tuesday, I will share a note or two here. The most popular bird of the day was a cooperative singing NORTHERN PARULA, but the most interesting bird for me was a WARBLING VIREO. (The Yellow Book lists April 16 as the earliest date, so our group missed the record by just a day!) BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS vied with RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS for the award for abundance. I can't remember another day seeing more ruby flashes on the kinglets -- the color was brilliant. Other arrivals included three kinds of swallows, four CHIMNEY SWIFTS, and some in our group spotted a SPOTTED SANDPIPER. I had to leave the main group of birders early, but I kept observing on my way back to the car. Lucky thing. I found a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and heard a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER on my way. One last note: a COMMON LOON flew over my yard before I left the house in the morning -- a new yard bird! A great morning!
