Schwarz" Subject: Meadowbrook, Howard County This is my THIRD try to post this, I have no idea why my post keeps disappearing. Argh! How Co Bird Club found this morning at Meadowbrook an American Bittern (flushed by Ralph, who took Bonnie's place and waded into the "Beer Marsh"), a Snipe, a Green Heron, a pair of Orchard Orioles and some very cooperative Savannah Sparrows. Park is slated for "development" in the near future, ball fields, etc. So enjoy it while you can. Take rt 29 to rt 100 east. Take first exit, Longgate Parkway. At stop sign, proceed ahead, turn left into park and ride. A nice mix of old fields, marsh, pond and stream, produces White-crowned Sparrows in winter, Blue Grosbeak in Summer. Thanks to Ralph who covered for me prior to my arrival. Several then adjourned to Lake Elkhorn. Yesterday's Cattle Egret was not found, but the Horned Grebe (about half way to breeding plumage) was found as well as a Greater Yellowlegs, and Solitary Sandpiper. Sue Neri subsequently informed me a Black-crowned Night Heron showed up this afternoon.
