(Sunshine,MD.) in preparation for an MOS trip next weekend, I saw and/or heard the following warblers on Saturday and Sunday : BLUE-WINGED (two individuals on Tucker Lane, one on Saturday, one on Sunday. Saturday's bird had one large and very distinct YELLOW wing bar, giving it Golden-winged lineage somwehere along the way. Sundays had two normal white wing bars). Northern Parula; many, many singing birds, chasing each other all over the treetops. Yellow-rumped; one male on Tucker Lane, both days. Pine; a pair with male singing on Triadelphia Lake Rd., Saturday Palm; a few individuals on Saturday at both locations. Black&white; Tucker Lane both days OVENBIRD; heard only, Tucker Lane and Ednor Rd, Sunday April 22. Louisiana Waterthrush; singing and claiming territory along the creek on Tucker Lane, both days. COMMON YELLOWTHROAT; singing male along powerlines, Tucker Lane, Sunday. HOODED WARBLER; singing male in woods along Tucker Lane, Sunday. CAPS indicate new bird for the year for me. Also seen this weekend; a lone Pied-billed Grebe swimming up-river at Tucker Lane (I have never before seen one here, as the Patuxent River here is only perhaps 50 ft. across and heavily wooded on both sides), Common Loons still flying over, Double-crested Corms flying over, lots of small flocks of Broad-winged Hawks moving over, Cooper's Hawk, my first CHIMNEY SWIFTS of the season, WHITE-EYED VIREO (2-3) and SOLITARY VIREO (3) on Tucker Lane, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, many gnatcatchers, many Cedar Waxwings, many singing towhees, singing Field and Chipping Sparrows. A wonderful weekend to be out...
