We have been hearing the very quiet murmurs from young Screech Owls in our nest box. This will be the fifth year out of six at this house that young have been raised by "our" pair of Screech Owls. They have not been the same pair every year. A couple of years ago, the female was gray and the male red. This year both are red and the male is noticeably smaller than the female. A House Wren has been busy working in at least one of my nest boxes in the yard, and singing his heart out most of the day. The most interesting and fun to watch has been a Pileated Woodpecker beating his brains out trying to do in a rival Pileated that keeps appearing in the side mirror and the windows of my truck. He has been at this for at least 3 weeks now and spends at least 2-3 hours, off and on, a day at it. Today a second Pileated came to help. This guy always manages to knock off my small convex mirror that I have stuck to the larger side mirror. I have been able to walk up to within 12 feet of the bird without disturbing his activity. Enjoy the spring birding.
