Large shorebird; gray-patterned upperparts; barely showing black wing tips; black, straight, heavy bill, fairly deep at the base, 1 1/2 to 2 x head; no facial markings of note; grayish legs. I watched it from the road opposite the big pipe. It did not call. As I just got back from three days at Chincoteage, looking at tons of Willets, I took it rather for granted, and not until I got home, checked my records and then the yellow book did I realize that I should have got closer and hoped that it flew. I decided against flushing it. Maybe someone should check me out. Hope it's not a one-day-wonder.
