Along Copperville Road (near Tunis Mills) I found 46 species in a little over an hour's time. Great fun, considering that during the past week it took many hours to come up with 66 species while covering quite a few sites in Puerto Rico. Today's highlights: Common Yellowthroat (at least five of them singing away) Summer Tanager Wood Thrush Pine Warbler Yellow-rumped Warblers (abundantly) Black-and-white Warbler Great Crested Flycatcher Eastern Kingbird Ruby-crowned Kinglet House Wrens (too many) Snowy Egret Green Heron Chipping Sparrow Field Sparrow still lots of White-throats around, but I saw no Juncoes. A pair of Bluebirds were carrying lots of building materials to one of my best nesting sites. A Robin has several eggs laid in a nest beside my garage. Wood-ducks seem to be using their nest box again, though I saw some Starlings come out of one side of this 'double-box' arrangement. And, as usual for this place, the Osprey are in total confusion - no gains made in nest building while we were gone, and the female keeps attacking the male whenever he approaches the platform. I believe she is dedicated to spinsterhood!
