Most people in the Wildlife and Heritage Division, and many in the DNR, share the opinions expressed in MOS' letter. If the waterfowl and heritage biologists had their way we would still be pursuing the control measures that we had started several years back. The situation within DNR right now is very worrisome and people have lost their jobs because of conflict with issues that the Governor supports. Some of the upper level managers were very strongly reminded the other day that they "do not work for the resource or the people of Maryland but for the executive branch" in a not very veiled threat to keep to the straight and narrow or suffer the consequences. DNR is under very strong pressure from animal rights lobbies via the highest office in the state. So please continue to make you views known on this issue so that we have a chance to implement a strong policy and not see this problem grow so large that we can never get the situation under control. Also, please make your views known on on other conservation issues and strongly support, in writing, both the DNR and the Wildlife and Heritage Division whenever you can. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
