MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hello all, I led an MOS-MCC field trip to Tucker Lane and Triadelphia Lake Rd. (both WSSC properties along the Patuxent River) Saturday morning (well, actually well into afternoon, ending about 1:45). We birded Tucker Lane from approx. 7 until about 9:15, then went to Brighton Dam for looks at Cliff Swallow, Common Loons, D-C Cormorants, Osprey and Bald Eagle. A singing Baltimore Oriole in the parking lot was the first for the year for many. Tucker Lane was slow at first, but we managed to find many N.Parulas, Louisiana Waterthrush, Ovenbird (heard only), Chestnut-sided Warbler, Black&white Warbler(heard only), Yellow-rumped Warbler, and Hooded Warbler. The star was the Hooded, providing great looks for everyone, a lifer for some! Also found were Red-eyed and White-eyed Vireo, great looks at a singing Yellow-throated Vireo (again, a lifer for some), and heard only Scarlet Tanager and Barred Owl. A pair of beavers provided added interest. After birding a short while at Brighton Dam we headed up to Triadelphia Lake Rd. where we found E.Meadowlarks, heard Grasshopper Sparrow briefly, and got killer looks at Black-throated Green, Blue-winged, Black&white (m&f), Prairie, Solitary Vireo, White-eyed Vireos (a pair), Common Yellowthroat, heard Pine Warbler, and had overhead a pair of Bald Eagles, more Osprey, a flyover N.Harrier, and at least one pair of Red-tailed Hawks. We tallied 70 species for the day, which considering the windy conditions and the large number in our group (13-14) was quite good. Everyone in the group got really great looks at at least 9 out of 13 species of warblers, and great looks at all 4 vireos. One woman had 6 life birds for the trip, with great views of all. It was a most rewarding day!
