Our morning covered back roads between Salisbury and Snow Hill (Meadowbridge Rd, Old Furnace Rd @ Pusey Branch, Forest Rd, Camp Rd and Red House Rd @ the Nassawango). We had a nice variety of warblers - Parula, B&W, Pine, Wormie, 1 Black-Throated Green (@ Pusey Branch), Prothonotary, Yellow-Throated, Chat, Prairie, Yellowthroat, Louisiana Waterthrush, 1 Northern Waterthrush (on Forest Rd), Redstart (on Camp Rd), and plenty of Yellow Rumps. Other birds included both Tanagers, Wood Thrush, 1 Hermit Thrush (on Forest Rd); Yellow-Throated, RE and WE Vireo; Great Crested Fly, Phoebes, and a singing PEWEE at Pusey Branch. First time I remember having a Pewee in April. Moving on to bayshore spots, we cruised through Public Landing, Scott's Landing, Truitt's Landing and Vaughn north. We could not find any lingering ducks (finding only GW and BW Teal at Vaughn) though I did find one each of RT and Common Loon at Taylor Landing. Heading back west, we rode some backroads on Somerset Co, making our way to Rumbly Point Rd. We had a few shorebirds (yellowlegs and Willet), 2 Louisiana Herons, Seaside Sp, and a cute and cooperative Fox trotting along the road as we left. We added 2 Wild Turkey along Rt 667 (?-Rehoboth Rd) heading north. Next stop was Deal. More shorebirds with Black Bellied Plover, numerous Dunlin, 2 Black-Necked Stilts. Also Glossy Ibis, Green Heron, 1 Caspian Tern, and Yellow Warbler. Our last stop was Elliot's Island. The good news was very few mosquitoes; the bad news was no Black Rails. We did have a Sora (south of the second house), an occasional VA Rail, and one that made a pumping noise though not all that deep and with a bit of a clacking quality to it. I did not call that one not knowing where the King/Clapper divide is. We added Chuck and Whip in the first 2 miles north of the marsh as we were leaving. In all 112 species.
