I heard four birds as I walked the lower trails. I also had at least 6 Hooded Warblers which is probably the highest number I've ever had there in one day (but only 9 total warbler species which was disappointing). Shorebirds are finally starting to trickle in to the beach ponds with two LEAST SANDPIPERS and one SPOTTED SANDPIPER. Other birds of note were: Green Heron - 3 Great Blue Herons (one nesting pair on Richardson's Pond) Great Horned Owl (sitting in a tree getting mobbed by crows) Forster's Tern - 1 Savannah Sparrows - 2 at beach I then went over to Battle Creek Cypress Swamp (on business but did a little birding). I was rewarded with a gorgeous male CANADA WARBLER. The PROTHONOTARY pair are still attacking their reflections in the back windows of the Visitor's Center, so they are very easy to spot. Other highlights were more ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS and a lovely SCARLET TANAGER. //////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com | || http://www.nestbox.com || ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
