The nights in the last week have been unseasonably cool, we had frost at least one morning, and the winds quite strong from the north or with a northerly component. However, obviously some birds have been moving, witness the appearance on territory of a number of migrants which have come in despite unfavorable conditions. But a warm front following a prolonged cold spell or period of rain can often yield rather spectacular numbers of birds -- it is as if they say, "At last..!"
