I have used both Avisys and Thayer's and am hooked on Thayer's. Like = most other things in life, I'm afraid the best listing program is in the = eye of the beholder. I liked Avisys (I , too, date back to the days of = DOS) and I like Thayer's. They each have good features and each is = improving all the time. Thayer's is coming out with their next version = this summer (I think) and they advertise it as the "fastest" listing = program on the market, or some such, a claim Avisys has used for some = time. It's a shame you can't try them both out before you buy (like we always = say about bins and scopes). If you have friends who love to show off = their program, see whether they'll show you the features. Also, both = programs have websites where they put their marketing info. It may be obvious by now that I do not have a connection to either = company but, if not, 'tis true. I just like what I like.... =20 Good birding (and ticking), Jack Powers Alexandria, VA, USA powersalex@home.com http://powersalex.homestead.com -----Original Message----- From: Jerry and Laura Tarbell [mailto:birdersforever@EROLS.COM] Sent: Tuesday, May 01, 2001 1:58 PM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: Re: [MDOSPREY] Bird Listing Software Jim, I have Thayer's and as far as I can tell it's not really intended for listing per se. It has a place on each species to check it if you've seen it, = but as far as I know there is no way to download a life list from it, say = nothing of a regional list. More for educational purposes than anything else. The = quizzes in it are great for testing yourself.
