MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Beware! Beware! Beware! Not only do Cormorants soar, but they can bear a frightening resemblance to Anhingas when they do soar. I once followed two birds in upper Frederick Co. for 10 minutes in my scope and was all but convinced that they were Anhingas until they finally lost altitude and came in for a landing. Cormorants! They can fan their tails like Anhingas and can look for all the world like they have long, pointed bills. So be very sure before reporting soaring Anhingas in this era of expanding Cormorant populations. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from reporting to the MD/DC Records Committee. I just want everyone to be aware of the duplicity of Double-crested (-faced?) Cormorants. Paul O'Brien Rockville, Mont.
