My highlights were At Rock Creek Park 2 YELLOW-THROATED VIREO (the nesting pair) 1 VEERY 3-4 WOOD THRUSH 1 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO 1 N. PARULA 1 CHESTNUT-SIDED W. 2 BLACK-THROATED BLUE W. 3 BLACK-THROATED GREEN W. 2 BLACKPOLL W. (quite early for them) 1 B&W WARBLER 1 AM. REDSTART 2 WORM-EATING WARBLERS 3 OVENBIRD 1 HOODED W. 1 SCARLET TANAGER 2 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK 1 BALTIMORE ORIOLE 1 GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER i.e., diversity was good but numbers were low At Kenilworth Park and the Aquatic Gardens 1 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK (one of the pair nesting at KAG) 2 BLUE GROSBEAK (both singing males) 2 INDIGO BUNTING (ditto) 2 EASTERN KINGBIRD 3 WHITE-EYED VIREO 1 WARBLING VIREO 2 RED-EYED VIREO 1 HOUSE WREN 1 BROWN THRASHER 1 N. PARULA 1 PRAIRIE WARBLER 3 PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS 1 N. WATERTHRUSH 1 COMMON YELLOWTHROAT 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and the piece de resistance, at around 11 a.m.: 1 AMERICAN BITTERN (sitting on a cross dike of the lily ponds at KAG, oblivious to nearby small boys throwing stones at Canada Geese! The small boys scattered upon my arrival but the Bittern just stood there. He looked tired. Mary Paul of USGS, who was conducting a survey at KAG, was able to see the bittern also.)
