Cormorant MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Steve, The two birds I saw, soared in a close very circular pattern (10-20 feet apart). Slowly gaining elevation untill they were almost out of sight with Zeiss 10x42 binoculars (clean lenses). I observed them for about a full 30 seconds (actual time). I never observed them flap their wings. Any other help is still greatly appreciated. Thanks - Parke. Cormorant Parke, You probably would have mentioned if your Double-crested Anhingas did any flapping as well as soaring. But just in case... in my moderate amount of exposure to Anhingas in my travels, the most distinctive thing about them in flight is that they flap and glide a lot. They do maybe about 5 seconds of flapping followed by about 5 seconds of gliding. I don't think cormorants do anything like that. I don't mean to claim that Anhingas may not also soar extensively, but flapping and gliding seems to be a frequent flight pattern. So, just in case, if you saw any such behavior, that should certainly be considered. And if an Anhinga is reported in SE Penna in the next few days, that would certainly be interesting.
