By then I was ready to go so we decided to try Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens for some of the good birds reported recently. It was a good choice, as we saw our targets and other goodies, despite having arrived at 9:30 am! AMERICAN BITTERN -- flushed from irises along pool, flew a short way and went into its "I am only a reed, not a bird" routine, affording wonderful views. 3) This was about 9:45! This was a DC "lifer" for both Barry and myself. PROTHONOTARY WARBLER (5 -count 'em- singing males, of which we saw a couple.) Beautiful. Again, a DC "lifer" for all intents and purposes as we had only heard one a couple of years ago at Fletcher's Boathouse. Other nice birds: Warblers: Yellow (2), Yellow-rumped (20), Yellowthroat (8), Northern Waterthrush (2), Black-throated Bue (1), Redstart (1), Parula (2). Vireos: Red-eyed (10), White-eyed (2), Warbling (2). Others: Orchard Oriole (2), Baltimore Oriole (everywhere! -- a dozen?), Scarlet Tanager (1), Eastern Kingbird (3), Blue Grosbeak (1), Indigo Bunting (4), lots of Rough-winged Swallows, Cooper's Hawk (1), Red-shouldered Hawk (2), Osprey (1), Least Sandpiper (12), Semipalmated Sandpiper (1), Solitary Sandpiper (5), Spotted Sandpiper (1), Wood Duck, Black Duck, Mallard.
