Least Terns have returned to Greenbelt, PG MD for the third consecutive year. The bird was at the pond off Hanover Parkway from about 4:30 to 5:00 this afternoon. Previous years, this bird spent much of its time surveying the southern pond at the Greenbelt Metro Station. At 5:30, when I arrived at this pond, I was greeted by -- a Least Tern. For now, I will guess only one bird is involved. Otherwise, the weekend in the county was unremarkable. Migrant warblers continue to be scarce. A migrant Warbling Vireo was along the Anacostia in Colmar Manor Saturday. On Friday along the Potomac at Broad Creek, there were three late Pipits. A Bobwhite and two male Common Mergansers were there April 30. The Canvasback between Mockly and Brian Points was still present Friday. Waterfowl are not suppose to be the highlights of a report this time of year.
