There were 4 singing males between milepost 27 and Horsepen Branch(one less than last Saturday) and one just east of Horsepen Branch. Unfortunately, there weren't any during the remainder of the trip. Last year there were 6 territories along this stretch of the towpath. As luck would have it I did hear a new one on the return trip near milepost 26. Three of the males I had heard earlier were still singing when I returned. Other birds of interest were 7 Northern Parulas (5 singing their primary song and 2 giving their cerulean imitation), at least 8 Wood Thrushes, 3 Acadian Flycatchers, and an Osprey.
