A pre-dawn walk at Lake Elkhorn this morning (Mon., 7 May) produced five warbler species: N. PARULA, YELLOW, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACKPOLL, and OVENBIRD. The Blackpoll was singing (ts ts ts ts ts ts) near the parking lot. Shorebirds there today were SOLITARY and SPOTTED SANDPIPERs, again. By the way, the HORNED GREBE was not seen today, but it was seen yesterday, Sun., 6 May at 6:30 a.m. at the east end of the lake, near the bridge. Joan DeCarli and I had excellent looks from 30 feet, through the scope. It was in full breeding plumage. I understand that this bird was not seen during the organized bird walk an hour later. Today (7 May) at Patapsco Park (Henryton Rd.) was RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD and YELLOW-THROATED VIREO.
