Lookout State Park in morning starting at 8:30. There were a few more warblers there than I have seen in the recent past, but it was still pitiful. I saw or heard 5 American Redstarts (male), 2 Black-and-white Warblers (m&f), 3 Prairie Warblers, 1 Yellow Warbler, 8 Pine Warblers, about 30 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 8+ Common Yellow-throats, 2 Northern Parulas, 3 Yellow-breasted Chats and finally an Ovenbird on the way out of the park. Other birds included 3 Brown Pelicans, 2 Orchard Orioles (adult males), 2 Scarlet Tanagers (males with one appearing orange from a distance), 6 Brown Thrashers, 16+ Gray Catbirds, 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Chimney Swifts, Tree and Barn Swallows, Eastern Towhees, a Marsh Wren in a tiny wet area containing about 5 cattails, and I startled 3 Black-crowned Night-herons (only new birds for my St. Mary's County year list) from their roost. A Northern Flicker seemed to be at a nest site, but the Red-headed Woodpecker pair reported to me from Saturday could not be found. There was a yodeling sandpiper flying over as well as 10 Semipalmated Plovers. The brief glimpses I got of the sandpiper through the tree tops was a large bird with a longish bill and legs. It sounded to me like a Long-billed Dowitcher from the CD, but as far as I know other shorebirds like yellowlegs could make a similar sound. Still with us are 6+ White-throated Sparrows, 2 Common Loons and several Ruby-crowned Kinglets. At the point were Savannah Sparrows and a Mute Swan at the pond with 4 young (I saw 5 last time I was there).
