Subject: Overflying MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Here is a note from a friend who lives near Pt. Pelee, Ontario in response to our sending him the article from the Washington Post. He does mention that places in Northern Ontario are reporting that the birds are already arriving there indicating that many species have already flown over us this year. --------- Thanks for the article. It was informative. I will follow some of it up, because I am trying to create a prairie grasslands complex on one of our closed landfill sites. It has already attracted nesting pairs of Horned Lark, Bobolinks, and Eastern Meadowlark. I will have to go out in search of Grasshopper sparrows and Dickcissels. Rest assured the Point is still at Point Pelee. We have lost a lot of the east shore of the park, put the tip has actually been longer last year and so far this year than it has been in years. Last fall you could walk almost two kilometres past the end of the tree line to the tip of the "Point". Following winter storms it is down to about 1 km, however more of it comes back every day. The birding, however, has been slow this spring. There are lots of species, just very low numbers. Spring has been very quick up here, and reports from up north, i.e. Algonquin Park, indicate that many of the birds jumped over us and headed right to their breeding grounds. Still, I have over 100 species so far this spring, and I have just been getting out for an hour or two before or after work. Life has been its usual crazy self, and then I went and tore the ligament in my knee last week, so I am watching from the window of my car.
