Since I won't be able to go to that Lake Elkhorn trip on Sunday, I went this morning at 9:00. Seeing warblers is the main thing about that trip, but the only one I saw was a Yellow Warbler. At first the only interesting bird I saw was a female Eastern Bluebird. I went to the swampy area that Jane Coskren told me about yesterday, but there were just Canada Goose there. While I was standing swinging at all the bugs, I did see a Red-shouldered Hawk fly away with something, but it was too far and I couldn't adjust my compacts quick enough to see what it was. I really wish I was brave enough to bring one of my better binoculars with me to the lake. As I leaving, thinking that there was nothing there, I saw someone else birding. He walked to the swampy area and I went to him to ask if he had seen anything. I saw he had a pair of those SWAROVSKI EL's. He said that he was looking at some shorebirds and he thinks that they are Solitary Sandpipers. Yes, 2 Solitary Sandpipers. There was also one Killdeer. There were also 2 other sandpipers that looked different than those Solitarys. They were smaller and grayer. That first Howard County Bird Club meeting that I went to last night was something that I really liked. Thanks Jane! You to Dennis.
