MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit MDOsprey, This is just a head's up to keep your eyes peeled for Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. Last year witnessed an unprecedented invasion to the Mid-Atlantic states, where Virginia had 5-7 reports and both Virginia and North Carolina had first nesting attempts, both apparently successful. Amazingly, this year the Scissor-tails have already returned to the Virginia site, and nesters in North Carolina and Georgia have also apready reappeared. Finally, this past weekend a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher was found on private land in Maryland. All the details are not in, but the bird is apparently already gone, and would not have been chaseable anyway. Nonetheless, we should all keep our eyes out since more may appear! Look for them in open areas with scattered trees or fencelines, and be sure to eliminate Fork-tailed Flycatcher which is only slightly less likely to appear (2 records for Md vs. about 15 for Scissor-tail).
