Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 11:37:17 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Michael Bowen Subject: DC sightings, May 15 Comments: To: voice@capaccess.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Highlights of today's visits to Kenilworth Park (KP), Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (KAG), Anacostia park (AP) and Anacostia Wetlands (AW) and nearby areas in DC were: o 3 singing WILLOW FLYCATCHERS: one at KP, adjacent to the Kenilworth mash, another (well seen) at River Terrace Park, just downstream of the Benning Rd. bridge, and yet another at AW, where the species probably bred last year. o There were 3 female Bobolinks in the no-mow area at KP at about 7:45 a.m. and a single CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER singing in the trees. o KAG had lots of swallows - mostly TREE, N. ROUGH-WINGED and BARN, with at least 6 BANK SWALLOWS in with them (first of the year for me). CHIMNEY SWIFTS were also abundant -- at least 50 over KP. KAG also had at least a dozen SPOTTED SANDPIPER and an equal number of SOLITARY SANDPIPER. o River Terrace park had 6 LEAST SANDPIPERS together with 2 more SPOTTED. o AP had a CASPIAN TERN in with lots of RING-BILLED GULLS. o AP had both ORIOLE SPECIES and EASTERN KINGBIRDS along the river.
