However, our disappointment was tempered by the Sooty Shearwater that flew into the inlet and landed in the middle as we watched. It stayed for about 15 minutes, then took off and flew northward along the coast. An immature Northern Gannet also flew past, close to the mouth of the inlet. Around noon conditions improved, and the Pacific Loon reappeared in all its splendor, feeding inside the jetty well towards the inland end. We didn't find the Roseate Tern, but conditions were poor, and it could well have been present. Also, back in Columbia on the previous evening (19th), Jane and I had six Common Nighthawks, flying northward.
