It appeared to be all green. The upperparts were a darker green than the underparts. It had an eye ring that was similar in color to the underparts. Overall it was similar to an Indigo Bunting in size shape and also in the bill size and shape. The bill was black. When I first saw it it was down in the grass in a wet area as if drinking and then flew up onto taller Phragmites. It only stayed there briefly to flying toward the Potomac and pines. I could not relocate. I had an earlier sighting of an adult male Mourning Warbler that was chasing every bird that attempted to bathe in "its" puddle. I called Anne Bishop who could not come, but she past the information about the warbler on to Kyle. He past me on my way home so I returned with him after telling him of the bunting. We searched for a while and still could not find either bird. If anyone is interested in the directions they are: The bunting was in a small wet area directly across the drive from the white house NE of Fort Lincoln. If one then walks toward the stockade wall (but not crossing the path) the Mourning Warbler was at the woods edge defending the puddle beside the two white posts that are together. I believe one says "Stockade". Please let me know if you confirm the ID on the bunting.
