We started out at Kingman Lake where there was absolutely NADA even though conditions were good tide-wise. River Terrace Park had two Great Egrets. Kenilworth Park had two singing male Grasshopper Warblers in the "no-mow" area, and a third may have been seen in flight. There were also two Black Ducks in with the Mallards scattered over the wet grass. At Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, three Little Green Herons and three fly-over Great Egrets, also two Prothonotary Warblers and three Warbling Vireos, two of them building a nest right next the the boardwalk (about half-way along). Also an Eastern Kingbird nest over the boardwalk at about the same spot. We heard Willow Flycatcher and also Alder Flycatcher, the latter more distant and across the inlet from the boardwalk (looking towards Kenilworth Park.) Mike Bowen had a tape (well, actually a neat mini-disk setup) and we could compare the two calls to make us comfortable with the sighting. Other birds of interest were about a dozen Semipalmated Sandpipers (from River Trail), both Orioles, Parula, Blackpoll and Magnolia Warblers and a very cooperative Yellow-billed Cuckoo. We then went over to Huntley Meadows and enjoyed super views of the pair of Mississippi Kites, which were actively feeding and the male displaying. Not much else there, however.
