Last Wednesday (May 23) evening, I observed a very busy tree at Bombay Hook NWR. It was swarming with Blackpolls, Magnolias, Redstarts, and The Weird One. Weird One was: - gray from the forehead to lower back. - faint yellow on lower flanks and undertail coverts - faint yellow wingbars - black eyeline (like Blue-winged ... see where I'm going with this?) - white breast - washed-out black throat I was stumped then, and I'm stumped now. But I'm starting to have some suspicions. Plate 3 (pg 48) of Warblers by Dunn & Garrett has illustrations of Brewster's and Lawrence's warbler. Weird One seemed to borrow parts from all the illustrations. Question to you expert warblerologists: 1) is this a variant of Brewster's, and how variant are the variants? 2) can I call it Gonzaga's Warbler? Pleaseeee? :-) cheers, Shireen Baltimore ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
