When I arrived around 11:00, I met a couple who were looking for Blue Grosbeaks and who mentioned that the CC-Sparrow was seen by others this mourning. Feeling optimistic, I briskly walked to the sight where the other MDOspreyers indicated I should find it singing (near Box#9). As soon as I came close to the designated field, I heard the CC-Sparrow's song - not pretty, but distinctive nonetheless. Because this would be a life bird, I was full of anticipation. Now only ~100 yards away, I heard the CC-Sparrow sing as I entered the appropriate path. Then silence! Yes, other birds were singing (Buntings, Field Sparrows, etc.) but no CC-Sparrow. I search, walked, waited and search some more. After 30 minutes, I decided to leave. But instead of taking the short way out, I decided to double back and listen some more. Finally off in the distance I hear a fainter, softer version of the earlier song. I scanned every bird trying to get lucky. A few steps later two small birds cross my view about 50 yards out. I could tell they were sparrows. I picked the second one and followed it until it landed atop a small tree and started singing. Yes! It was the CC-Sparrow. As they say "Its good to be good, but its better to be lucky" Thanks again to all who provided the directions and updates that made the trip possible. Best of luck. Van Vogel CBC P.S. Yes, I found the Grosebeaks as well. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
