The talk, entitled "What have I learned from 100,000 net-hours of back-yard banding?" is a power point presentation. Each autumn since 1973, Chan has studied fall migration through hi= s 2.5 acre backyard along the Patuxent River in Laurel, Maryland. Last f= all his cumulative net-hours of effort reached 100,000 so he prepared a sum= mary of his results to present to the annual meeting of the Eastern Bird Ban= ding Association last April. He will talk about species that have increased= and some that have declined over this period. For the more common migrants= he will discuss differential migration between age and sex groups, and wi= ll show maps depicting dispersal of banded birds from Laurel. His birds h= ave been found north to Ontario and Nova Scotia, west to Minnesota, and sou= th to Mexico and Honduras. Chan has studied migratory birds at the Patuxent Wildlife Research= Center in Laurel for more than 50 years. The meeting will be held at the College Park Airport Annex.= There will be a potluck supper at 6:30 with the meeting beginning at 7:= 15. Everyone is welcome to attend either or both. Please bring a dish to p= ass if attending the potluck supper. The College Park Airport Annex can be reached from the Beltway by exiting south onto Kenilworth Avenue, after about 1.5 miles, turn right= onto Paint Branch Parkway, then turn right onto CPL Frank Scott Drive. = At the end of Frank Scott Drive continue straight into a parking lot.
