Maybe I should wear my lucky blue shirt more often. At the end of the boardwalk, a willow flycatcher perched in plain view, and a marsh wren finally came out of hiding to allow a brief but full look by its nest. I tried to turn a small green heron with orange on its bill, yellow-green legs, and brown streaking on its neck and chest into a least bittern to no avail. The 1st summer green heron on p. 64 of the Sibley guide looks a lot like what I saw. After receiving some excellent directions, I finally was able to find the "no mow" area at Kenilworth Park. Finding the grasshopper sparrow was easy today, as it called from one of the signs marking the edge of the meadow.
