Highlights included: Mt. Nebo WMA Golden winged warbler - excellent views on the snags in the swampy area. Yellow warbler - several in the swampy area American Redstart - plentiful in the woods on either side of the swamp. Veery Immature Rose Breasted Grosbeak - this bird was close to the path in the swamp and called repeatedly to a point where he was drowning out other calls. Finzel Swamp There were several flycatchers but none of them was calling so I can't report on the types. I saw a Cerulean Warbler sharing a snag with a Chestnut sided warbler. I thought the sighting of the Cerulean was unusual but I got an excellent view of the bird who was an adult male. Potomac State Forest There were many Blackburnian Warblers singing in the pine trees at the end of White Chruch Road but we only got a few good looks, both males and females Legislative Road in Allegany County There were numerous Grasshopper Sparrows and Field Sparrows but no Henslow's were seen or heard after an hour of waiting. The weather was beautiful but it was very windy so we might have missed the call. We did get some excellent views of Meadowlarks. Thanks to Joel Martin, Stan Arnold, Steve Sanford and Diane Jones for the excellent directions and insights. It was a wonderful trip and one I hope to do every year.
