I have been to this wonderful site more then several times and always have had excellent experiences. The site is quite interesting and could be described as unique in appearance. The bird list is quite lengthy from the different visits. Everything from Purple Gallinule to Pileated to Limpkins, many heron species, Common Snipe, Eastern Phoebe, RC Kinglets, Belted Kingfisher, N Harriers, Bald Eagles, Anhingas, Am Kestrel, GW Teal, N Shovelers, both Yellowlegs, and so on and so on...also armadillo, otter...we heard it munching on a fish first and then located it and we also stepped over many alligators. This is just one trip to OWP in January on a chilly, misty wonderful day. I have a good friend who goes to this site regularly and knows every nook and cranny. If anyone is interested in an experienced birder accompanying you on your visit, please email me and I will then forward your contact information to my friend. I also enjoy birding at Merritt Island, although the bird list for a day is usually [not always] excellent it has not been comparable to OWP.
