Early morning or late afternoon could be better, especially the morning. From Takoma Park, I'd take the Beltway to I 66, provided there are no slowdowns, accidents, or tar trucks. =20 If one lives in southern Prince Georges County, or south or east, the second alternate is worth considering. =20 Best,=20 Rob Hilton rhilton@csa.com Silver Spring, Md.=20 ++++++++++++++++++++++ Subject: STFL directions (Virginia) From: Todd Day Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 14:02:28 EDT To anyone interested... The directions posted on the Voice of the Naturalist to the scissor-tailed flycatcher are accurate, from Culpeper. Getting to Culpeper depends on where you are coming from of course. I have no idea where Takoma Park is [so sue me Marylanders], but the two easy ways to get to Culpeper from Maryland are as follows. Take Interstate 66 west to US 29 south in Gainesville, exit 43 (the signs might say Warrenton or Charlottesville). Take 29 south roughly 40 miles to Culpeper. Look for US 522 south from Culpeper, and then follow the previously posted directions. An alternate route to get to Culpeper is to take 95 south to exit 130, which is Route 3. This is Fredericksburg, and it is home of the cheapest gas any of you Marylanders have seen in some months [it was 1.39 yesterday]. Take Route 3 west all the way to US 522, which is just east of Culpeper. Head south [left hand turn] and then pick up the directions that were posted on the Voice from there. An alternate to the last method would be to take US 301 to route 3, and head west to Fredericksburg and then on to Culpeper. Good luck.
