Date: Fri, 29 Jun 2001 12:27:39 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: John Hubbell Subject: DC Yellow-crowned night-herons When I saw the two yellow-crowned night-herons at Fletcher's Boathouse on 6/26, it was around 6:45 a.m. They were gone by 7 a.m. When I saw one at Chain Bridge on 6/1, it was about 6:30 a.m. It flew into trees shortly after that, and I did not see it again. I have been on Chain Bridge between 6 and 7 a.m. several times since then and have not seen another there. Because of the strange traffic patterns in this area on weekdays -- there are portions of Canal Rd where you can't travel north after 6:15 a.m. -- I usually park at Chain Bridge by 6 a.m., check things out from the bridge, and then walk down to Fletcher's Boathouse.
