We arrived at Fletcher's about 5:45 am and soon found the pair foraging on the wet grass of the picnic area (about half-way along). They appeared to be picking up worms etc. from the grass. This is quite different habitat and foraging strategy than the 6-8 Black-crowns that were frequenting the wet mud and rocks of the river bank and small stream which runs into the Potomac just up from the boat dock. We left the birds about 6 am and they were still there. Other birds of interest incuded Louisiana waterthrush along little stream, Prothonotary Warbler and Warbling Vireo. A walk over Chain Bridge to view the wetlands along the river yielded about 6 Little Green Herons and a few more B-C Night-herons, as well as abundant Wood Ducks.
