On June 27 he observed one Black-billed Cuckoo. The birds are active & easy to spot along the park's stream. His notes indicate that both of these bird species were present last year at the same time (Jun-Jul) in the same area. He's assuming that both species are breeding in the park. Unfortunately, the field (past the stream), where Blue Grosbeaks nest & many butterflies hang out was mowed too early in the season this year. Jim's records indicate that the Grosbeak adults were feeding young at this time last year and this year too. He fears that the badly timed mowing at the very least disturbed, but more probably, destroyed the nesting. The park was recently assigned a new director. Jim's presently attempting to find out who authorized the mowing.
