Here are some sightings made in the District of Columbia on Monday, July
16, 2001:

At Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens --

A MARSH WREN was again found singing at the end of the new observation
boardwalk. This time I not only saw the bird but observed it collect food
and take it back to a nest that is easily visible about 50 ft. out from the
end of the deck.

Birds noted singing at 9+ a.m. included several INDIGO BUNTINGs, a BLUE
GROSBEAK and a WARBLING VIREO. Water birds included one GREAT EGRET and 3
GREEN HERONs.

10+ KILLDEER, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER and 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were on the mud
across from the observation platform.

At Kingman Lake, aside the Langston Golf Course,

there were more KILLDEER and 4 LEAST SANDPIPER, together with a single OSPREY.

At Roosevelt Island,

there were 6 AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, 16 WOOD DUCK (mostly young of the year),
a juvenile GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER and 2 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER.

Just south of Reagan National Airport,

there were lots of GREAT BLUE HERONS, at least 67 by my count.
