Approximately 3 miles west of Route 301, on MD 228. The wetland is on the north side of 228. If you are coming from 301, you will cross over a broad floodplain, then pass a red house on the right. Just after the house is part of the wetland, then a hill at road level with a dirt drive onto it. You can park there. From the drive, walk down the hill, and there is a pond and shallow area to the left, popular with shorebirds. The woods all around the wetland are full of very interesting birds as well. SHA (State Highway Administration) just asks that you do not damage the plants growing there, as this wetland is still in the process of becoming a functional forested wetland, and is also being monitoring for vegetative growth (which is what I do there). The most productive piece of woods we found was at approximately 1:00 (if you stand on the hill and 12:00 is straight ahead). There is a wooded "island" in the middle of the wetland (at 11:00). Those who are leary of snakes, please note that a large northern water snake was seen here in April trying to eat a bullfrog, and several pairs of black racers were seen also. Since this is a protected area, the animals are protected also.
