I have been assaulted by blackflies in N. New England in early summer and the rule of thumb is, there is no respite. Eyes, noses, etc. are where they (and gnats) gather after you've applied whatever to clothing and skin on the rest of your bod. I do know this - my long-term exposure to Vermont skeeters leaves me less prone to itching and swelling. And remember, all bugs are insects but not all insects are bugs. ************************ Frank Boyle Laurel, MD ravenfrank@earthlink.net ************************ -----Original Message----- From: Maryland Birds & Birding [mailto:MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM] On Behalf Of linda vogel Sent: Monday, July 16, 2001 3:49 PM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: [MDOSPREY] Summer Fun Hi all, O.K. its July, its hot and its muggy. No surprise. Yet, I have not seen a posting concerning one of my (and most birder's) most important summer birding topics: bug juice. It is not uncommon for me to be assaulted by so many gnats that my eyes begin to water from the blinking and rubbing of my eyes (and yes the occasional grinding of wayward gnats). So before I cry myself completely out of summer walks in the park, what are the best bug replants (homemade or commercially available)? Best wishes, Van Vogel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
