I asked the leader of the trip if he was going to find us a Marbled Godwit. He found my request highly amusing, as did most of the others on the trip, and I continued to hear joking remarks about Marbled Godwits for the remainder of the evening. Now my question wasn't entirely without basis. The Yellow Book shows appearances of Marbled Godwits in Maryland from about the middle of July through early November. This species has been noted in Allegany, Montgomery, Baltimore, Harford, Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Kent, Talbot, Dorchester, and Worcester Counties. Habitat for the species has been noted as tidal mud flats and dredge spoil impoundments. Aside from the obvious locale of Hart-Miller Island, I would like to know some likely places to look for this species and also ideas about the most likely time to look for it. If anyone can provide us with locales of past sightings, especially from the Eastern Shore Counties, I'd be most appreciative. Best, Norm Saunders ===================================== Norman C.
